June 22nd,

The fishing continues to improve as even more Spot and Croaker begin to move into the Bay, Most anglers are having no trouble filling up a Cooler with em. The Spot can be caught on Bloodworms or Fishbites while the Croaker have been hitting pretty much anything including: Bloodworms, Fishbites, Clams, Squid, Bunker, and Gulp Baits. I saw several yesterday that were around 14 inches. The Flounder bite has seemed a little stronger over these last few days, still a lot of shorts being put back but a decent number of keepers being caught on either Minnows or Gulp fished on a jig head. Weakfish still show up in random small schools and they have not been picky about what they eat, so far they have been caught on Live Spot, Cut Spot, Bloodworms, Minnows, Gulp, Clams, and Fishbites. I was Spot fishing next to the pier the other afternoon and had what looked to be about a 3-4 pound Weakie chase the spot that I had just hooked up to the surface and then attempted to swallow said 8" Fish, One of the coolest experiences I have had on this pier. Finally as a side note Red Drum look like they are going to make another showing in the Delaware Bay this year much earlier  than last years run but we are happy none the less to see them. There was one reported to me yesterday by a Gentleman who was wading next to the pier caught on Chartreuse Gulp but released the fish since he did not know what it was. For many Delaware Anglers these fish are an unknown since they just are not a common fish to this area. But if you are to catch one they can be identified by the BLACK SPOT just before the tail and will generally have a redish coloration to them. There is a Year long slot season on these fish meaning they can only be between 20-27 inches to keep.

The Surf has switched over to the usual summer time pick of Croakers, Kingfish, & Puffers with some Blues mixed in and of course Skates and Dogfish. My best recommendation for the Surf this time of year would be a top and bottom rig with either fishbites or Bloodworms of course you can always try for the blues with a piece of Bunker or Mullet.
